The Monopoly 50p was issued to celebrate 90 years since the world’s favourite board game - Monopoly - first hit the shelves in the UK. First launched in the UK in 1935, Monopoly quickly became a household name. Introduced to the UK by Leeds based game company Waddingtons, the board famously featured London landmarks - though over the decades, countless other editions have popped up showcasing towns, cities, and even fictional sites. The design, by Bella Biggs, perfect captures the spirit of the game, featuring iconic elements such as classic player tokens, property cards and Mr. Monopoly himself!
