In 2023, iconic characters from the original Star Wars™ trilogy featured on official UK coins for the first time. A four-coin collection was issued to celebrate 40 years since the release of Return of the Jedi. This was the second 50p coin in the series, featuring the deadly duo Darth Vader™ and Emperor Palpatine™, perhaps the most notorious villains in the whole Star Wars™ franchise. The reverse design also includes a lenticular feature which changes between the Galactic Empire symbol and the Death Star when tilted. The obverse features King Charles III’s portrait.
