This 50p was issued to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III on 6th May 2023. This is the first ever UK Coronation 50p, and features a unique crowned portrait of King Charles III, which had never been seen before. The reverse design, by Natasha Jenkins, shows a depiction of Westminster Abbey and His Majesty’s Royal Cypher. This crowned version of the Coronation 50p has been personally approved by The King and did not enter circulation.
